WORKSHOP: PHOTOGRAPHY AS A SCULPTURAL ELEMENT

How can photography tell the story of the crisis facing our cities?

Through photography and the study of green spaces, we can determine whether a city is truly designed with people in mind. Urban greenery is more than just landscape; it acts as a barometer for how nature is integrated into our social and daily lives. To document the post-industrial impact and the wounds in the urban fabric, we need a deeper language. Layered. Tactile.

During the workshop, we will create a triptych that functions as a sculptural object rather than merely an image. Under the expert guidance of artist and photographer Gabriele Chirienti, we will explore the realm of hybrid photography.

MIXED MEDIA

An opportunity to experiment with the dialogue between digital photography and analog processing. An invitation to use your hands to spark creativity and bring to life an unexpected work—one capable of giving voice to a theme that is as important as it is urgent. In collaboration with I'Mm I Fotografia e mixed media, by Michela Taeggi.

WORKSHOP: CREATE YOUR OWN PHOTOGRAPHIC FANZINE

Transform your photographic project into a self-produced fanzine, designed and built with care. Under the expert guidance of Luca Cisternino, binder and graphic designer, in collaboration with I'Mm I Fotografia and mixed media, by Michela Taeggi.

During the workshop, a photographic fanzine will be created using two bookbinding techniques: the pamphlet and a variant of the Japanese album. Guided by Luca, master bookbinder, you will have the opportunity to design and build your first fanzine, following every stage of the process: from the initial idea to the concrete realization of the object.

Today, for a photographer, the fanzine represents a precious tool: not only a means of self-promotion, but also a free space in which to give shape to one's imagination, share a project and build a direct relationship with the public.

course in planning already started in the Studio- can be activated on request in a specific location

GROUP COURSE minimum 4 participants, maximum 8

How and why did photo editing arise? What does it mean to know how to retouch a photograph today? What are the basic concepts for processing a digital image? Does post production help us imagine or is it a limit? How is the digital photographic workflow organized?

The course was created to illustrate the main features of Photoshop and in-depth analysis of Lightroom, pointing out the differences between retouching and editing, which are not "disciplines" separate from the correct processing of a file, but important phases for the optimization or creation of a digital image and understanding a conscious workflow. The course will take place from 9am to 2pm. In these 5 hours theory and photographic technique will merge: outdoor and studio exercises will be proposed, having some professional equipment from Studio Datrino available. The practical exercise will be followed by direct analysis and the respective photo editing exercise, led by teachers Elena Datrino and Fausto Busin.

Seven intense meetings in witch, for each lesson, different aspects and techniques will be addressed, associating lighting and composition with different thematic insights into post-production.

A common exchange space will be made available on Dropbox, in which students will be able to upload photographs in progress with constant updates between teachers, who will be able to comment and help complete the exercises.

Required material Digital camera with the possibility of manual settings, computer with the latest or recent version of Photoshop and Lightroom installed, graphics tablet (preferably), pen and paper.

Today we are all simultaneously users and creators of images: how to orient ourselves between the quantity and quality of infinite daily visual stimuli? What and how is it important to recognize, observe and photograph?

The course, conceived and hosted by Elena Datrino, was created to offer visual awareness and satisfy the needs of photography enthusiasts who wish to know the basics of photographic language both in technical terms, learning to use and exploit the equipment available, and in cultural terms, with an overview of the history of photography and contemporary authors who have become part of our imagination.

Six intense meetings (h 9-13 am) characterized by a very direct exchange with the participants, who, guided by a theoretical and practical approach, will shed light on their own potential and curiosity, acquiring a sense of orientation in the world of images.

Lessons will be divided into two parts: the first one dedicated to photographic theory and technique (reference authors, history and epochal developments, theoretical and practical technique) and the second one dedicated to outdoor and studio exercises, having some professional equipment from Studio Datrino available. Each time the exercises will be concluded by downloading the digital images to the computer, tackling the complete production cycle of a photograph: conception, creation, final processing and presentation.

Required material Digital camera with the possibility of manual settings, computer, paper and pen.

Each lesson will be divided into two parts, dedicated to photographic theory and technique and to outdoor and studio exercises, having some professional equipment from Studio Datrino available. The topics of greatest interest to the participant will be identified, having the opportunity to delve deeper into theoretical-practical and historical aspects, if desired. Each time the exercises will be concluded by downloading the digital images to the computer, tackling the complete production cycle of a photograph: conception, creation, final processing and presentation.

Col cuore in mano

Col cuore in mano

On the occasion of Museo City 2022, the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum will host a photography workshop curated by Elena Datrino, already author of the video installation "Col cuore in mano". What will be done during the workshop?

• 10.00-11.30 am: introduction to theory (composition, Gestalt, perception) and photographic technique.
• 11.30am-1pm: practical exercise, a "retail hunt" in which participants will be asked to explore and photograph the rooms of the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum.
